Vauxhall- a name synonymous with quality British design, manufacturing and value. From the Victor to the Cavalier, the Belmont to the Zafira, Vauxhall have continued to produce cars that have a wide and enduring appeal. And despite the fact that many modern Vauxhalls are manufactured overseas, the brand principles remain strong, and faithful to traditional values.

Although the first Vauxhall car was manufactured in 1903, the business was actually founded in 1857 as a pump and marine engine manufacturer by Alexander Wilson. In 1863, the company changed hands and started to produce travelling cranes.

Early days of vehicle production at Vauxhall focused on the motorsports industry. However, the business changed its approach in 1924 when it decided to concentrate its attention on the commercial market; the rest, as they say, is history. The Vauxhall Corsa remains one of the most popular cars on the road today in the UK, but how did this particular model become a motoring icon?

Vauxhall Corsa

The Vauxhall Corsa model continues to be representative of the company’s overall brand values and its commitments to quality and value.

Since its introduction to the market 36 years ago (under the ‘Nova’ moniker) the Corsa has continued to evolve, but the core principles of affordability and practicality have remained the same. It continues to be incredibly car model and is available to buy in the UK from quality, approved dealers such as Peter Vardy.

1980s

1982 saw the introduction of the ‘Nova’ as a boxy, 3 door supermini hatchback. It effectively went on to replace the tired Vauxhall Chevette model which would be phased out two years later. The Nova was a hit with the British public and saw strong sales over its 11 years of production. However, towards the end of this period, a redesign was required in order for the model to keep abreast with its competitors.

1990s

The Corsa B hit markets in 1993 and saw a smoother and more rounded design being implemented to reflect changing consumer tastes and modern manufacturing methods. Vauxhall introduced several different variants of this model in order to appeal to a wider range of people.

2000s

The Corsa C followed in 2000 with more subtle aesthetic alterations.

However a winning formula had been achieved, building on prior success. In the early – mid 2000s, the Corsa continued to feature highly in the list of the most popular cars in the UK; it was also the best-selling ‘supermini’ car on four separate occasions.

With a sleek update in 2006, the Corsa D model continued the success of the previous generation – winning Car of the Year in 2006 and placing second in the European Car of the Year in 2007.

2010s and Beyond

The latest Corsa E model first came into production in 2014 and offers a smart, modern aesthetic with all the mod cons – including Bluetooth and an Onboard assistant. The interior offers impressive personalisation, making it the most customisable model to date. Overall, the Corsa continues to offer a cost-effective, practical motoring option – from the fuel economy, and car performance to the style and design.
