The popular teen-drama returned to screens for a second series with audiences in the USA viewing it on Wednesday.
The Netflix show didn’t fail to entertain with its sophomore season kicking off by shocking fans with the death of a main character.
In episode one of the second season we see Luke Perry’s character Fred Andrews being rushed to hospital by his son Archie, played by KJ Apa, following the season one finale that saw Fred get shot.
However, while the father and son duo in danger storyline played out, fans were set to be shocked by the sudden and unexpected death of Ms Grundy, played by Sarah Habel.
We last saw the music teacher, who became notorious for having a romantic affair with her student Archie, fleeing from Riverdale after her true identity was revealed.
Ms Grundy clearly hasn’t learned her lesson because in Wednesday night’s episode she was seen working with a student in her home before kissing him goodbye.

However, once Ms Gundy was left alone she was caught off-guard by the same hooded gunslinger that shot Fred.
But this time, instead of pulling the trigger and ending her life swiftly, the hooded assailant strangles her to death and leaves her motionless body on the floor.
The shock death left viewers in pieces with one fan tweeting: “#Riverdale season two episode one’s ending… I had to pick my jaw up off the floor.”
Another added: “The last five minutes of #Riverdale was my favourite part of the episode. #GrundyBeGone.”
While a third surprised viewer wrote: “Well I definitely didn’t see that #Riverdale twist coming at the end.”

AJ recently discussed how Ms Grundy’s death will affect Archie, telling E News: “Obviously, what happened was her murder, and when Archie finds out about it, he’s not going to take it well.
“I think Archie, he loved Ms Grundy, or he thought he loved Ms Grundy, so with her being murdered, again, it kind of makes his quest to find revenge for his dad that much more intense.”
Riverdale season 2 returns to Netflix UK on Thursday 12 October.
