The final season of Game of Thrones is going to be coming out officially in April 2019, HBO has confirmed.
It had been rumoured for a long time, but a new teaser video released on Twitter has finally given fans of the show a date to look forward to.
Showing a selection of shots from the previous seasons, the teaser video says:
The final series of the show will see all of our questions answered – we hope – such as “will Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen realise they are blood relatives?”.
Oh, and we’ll probably find out who wins the ‘Game of Thrones’ outright and captures the Iron Throne and with it the Seven Kingdoms.
Either way, it’s taken some time to be ready, but it promises to be the biggest and best season yet.
HBO President Casey Bloys said earlier this year that the CGI, battles, and episodes are going to be bigger than ever. Episodes are going to run for around 90 minutes, since you’ve asked.
Bloys told Entertainment Weekly that the extra wait was because it has taken this long for showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss to be finally happy with the product.
He also said: “Here’s what I’ll tell you: they take the time they need to do the show at its highest level of quality. As the show has gone on, it’s gotten bigger – big battle scenes, big special effects.
“These things take time. Here’s the one thing I can assure you: Dan and Dave were not sitting around on a beach waiting to go back to work. They’re perfectionists and this is the soonest it can come back at a level of quality that they are comfortable with.”
Another thing we know – as if the previous seven seasons hadn’t taught us this – is that we should probably try not to get too attached to anyone on the show.
They’ll probably get their head lopped off, skull crushed in, or incinerated in either fire or ice by a dragon of some kind.
Recently, HBO’s senior vice president of drama, Francesca Orzi, told the INTV conference in Israel that the cast didn’t know plot details prior to getting their hands on their scripts.
She said: “None of the cast had received the scripts prior, and one by one they started falling down to their deaths.”
Either way, we’ll know in April.
